Master of Ricketts’ Riding School. Ricketts hired Franklin in 1796 to head up the riding school, so Ricketts could focus on the circus. But when Ricketts moved his circus in late 1796 much of his company stayed in Philadelphia. Ricketts then convinced Franklin to perform as an actor to compensate for the loss of performers.
